Description
Weed management is one of the most crucial practices in crop production. In cereal farming, especially maize, wheat, and rice, early weed competition significantly impacts yield, crop health, and long-term profitability. Unchecked weeds reduce access to water, nutrients, and sunlight and can also harbor pests and diseases. To counter this challenge, Agromine 860SL Selective Herbicide has been formulated to deliver powerful, selective control of broadleaf weeds while remaining safe for your cereal crops.
Agromine 860SL contains 2,4-D Amine Salt at a concentration of 860g/L, making it one of the most potent and economical post-emergence herbicides available in the East African market. Designed for systemic action, this herbicide is absorbed through the leaves and quickly translocated throughout the weed, killing it from the inside out. It is highly effective on common and resistant weed species and has been a trusted solution for farmers seeking efficiency, affordability, and results.

How It Works
Agromine 860SL is based on 2,4-D Amine Salt, a synthetic plant hormone (auxin) that disrupts the normal cell growth and division process in broadleaf weeds. When applied post-emergence, the product is absorbed through the leaf surface and moves through the plant’s vascular system. Once inside, it triggers uncontrolled and abnormal growth in the target weeds, leading to cell damage, nutrient imbalance, wilting, and eventual plant death.
This systemic mode of action ensures that not only are the leaves and stems affected, but also the root systems, making it highly effective for total weed elimination. Grasses and cereal crops have a different biochemical structure and are unaffected at the recommended dose.
Key Benefits
Selective Weed Control
Agromine 860SL targets broadleaf weeds while remaining safe for cereal crops, including maize, wheat, and rice. It is ideal for post-emergence application when weeds have already appeared but before they cause damage to your crop.
Systemic and Long-Lasting
The herbicide translocates throughout the plant, including hard-to-reach meristematic tissues. This prevents regrowth and provides reliable long-term control with a single application.
Effective Against a Wide Range of Weeds
Agromine 860SL is highly effective against many broadleaf weed species such as pigweed (Amaranthus spp.), black nightshade (Solanum nigrum), gallant soldier (Galinsoga parviflora), wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis), purslane, morning glory, and creeping oxalis.
Crop-Safe Formulation
It can be used safely on young cereal crops without causing phytotoxicity when applied according to guidelines.
Improves Yield Potential
By reducing competition for nutrients and light, Agromine 860SL helps your crop grow vigorously and uniformly, contributing to improved grain fill, maturity, and final harvest quality.
Cost-Effective Solution
With a high concentration of 2,4-D, only small volumes are needed per hectare. This makes Agromine 860SL economical, especially for large-scale farming.
Flexible Across Crops and Uses
Suitable not only for maize, wheat, and rice but also for use in sugarcane fields, pastures, tea estates, lawns, and roadsides.
Recommended Application
Timing
Apply when weeds are actively growing and before they reach maturity. The best timing is when the crop has at least two leaves and weeds are at the 2–5 leaf stage. Avoid applying to crops that are flowering or stressed by drought.
Mixing Instructions
Shake well before use. Add the required amount of Agromine 860SL to a half-filled spray tank with clean water. Stir or agitate, then fill the rest of the tank with water and mix thoroughly. Use immediately after mixing.
Recommended Rates
-
Maize: 2 L per hectare (13.5 ml per litre of water)
-
Wheat: 2.5 to 3 L per hectare (16–20 ml per litre of water)
-
Rice: 2 L per hectare
-
Lawns and pastures: 2 L per hectare
-
Non-crop areas (e.g., road verges): 2.5 to 3 L per hectare depending on infestation level
Spraying Volume
Use 150 to 200 litres of water per hectare. Ensure even coverage on weed foliage. Flat-fan nozzles are recommended for best spray patterns.
Rainfastness
The product is rainfast within 2 to 4 hours. Do not apply if rain is expected within this window.
Precautions and Safety Guidelines
-
Always wear gloves, protective clothing, and a face shield during handling and spraying
-
Do not apply under windy conditions to avoid drift to non-target crops
-
Keep animals and people away from treated areas until the spray has dried
-
Wash hands thoroughly after use
-
Do not apply near water bodies or drainage channels
-
Store in original container away from heat, children, food, and animal feeds
-
Empty containers must be triple-rinsed, punctured, and disposed of properly
Environmental Impact
Agromine 860SL is biodegradable and breaks down over time under soil microbial activity. However, due to its potency, it should be used responsibly and away from sensitive crops such as beans, vegetables, flowers, and trees. Avoid spraying near non-target plantings and water sources.
